What Goes Around Comes Around Spool Ideation Blog
Caitlyn Shanahan
Purpose:
To show that every thing we throw away and every non-eco friendly decision we make adds up. Often times we think that an individual to make any real difference in society, however society is completely made up of individuals so all of our choices matter everyday. This animation is meant to propose that out individual choices matter, and can sometimes even be the tipping point.
Furthermore, we rarely think of our waste and where it goes. The truth is when we throw something away it doesn’t really go away. It goes into our oceans, landfills and environments and eventually this waste will come back to affect us whether it is tomorrow, next year, or 50 years from now.
Every individual makes a difference is waste disposal and every piece of waste remains in our ecosystem, typically beyond our own lifetime.
The Spool:
The spool will sit horizontally and rotate 360 degrees.
The spool will be split into 4 subsections that will flow into one another, each subsection will have its own feel and environment.
It will follow the animated travel of one piece of trash through a series of environments.
The trash begins being thrown away in a garbage can in a house by the silhouette of a character.
The trash then moves to a dumpster outside of the house, after which it is bulldozed into an overflowing landfill.
The trash piles up so high until it is flush with the original house at the beginning of the loop. As the initial character continues to throw away trash, the trash he has previously discarded piles up at his door.
A satiric loop to prove that what we through “away” doesn’t ever really go away.
Style:
- The style will be very artistic cartoon
- With painted 2D background and middleground and 3D foreground primarily composed of laser cut paper and found objects
