I’m going to be tackling the concept of sustainability through the lens of what nature means to each of us on the day to day. We are all well-aware (at least logically) that there are catastrophic repercussions to neglecting our environment, but sometimes these are at such a gargantuan scale that it can be hard to truly conceptualize. I’m going to focus on the smallest pleasures of nature that we would be unwise to forget.
It features a controllable player, a young boy. He is walking through the woods, distracted and/or making a commotion in one way or another. If the user chooses to let him continue like that, very little will happen. But if the user chooses to stop or to sit — to appreciate nature — the woods will come alive with sounds, light, and creatures.
The woods will be back-lit papercraft and will be the only physical element of the diorama. All living elements will be 2D hand-drawn digital animation. All elements, both physical and digital, will be expressed in silhouette, (physical in black, digital in white.)
The style is heavily influenced by Studio Playdead’s side scrolling games, LIMBO and Inside
